Unlike a closed dry freight container, the open top configuration replaces the fixed steel roof with removable support bows and a heavy-duty weatherproof tarpaulin cover, allowing direct overhead crane access to the full interior floor area — enabling loads to be lifted in vertically that would otherwise be impossible to manoeuvre through an end door opening.

The removable door header at the rear of the container adds a further loading option — by swinging open or removing the door header entirely, the end opening clearance is increased beyond the standard 2.28m door height, allowing tall cargo to be slid in horizontally from the end with additional vertical clearance above the door aperture. Built-in lashing rings are fitted to the interior floor and side rails to secure cargo during transport, preventing load shift. The floor is 28mm marine-grade plywood on steel cross-members, providing a stable load-bearing surface rated for heavy industrial and construction cargo.

The tarpaulin cover is fitted over the support bows to provide weatherproofing when the container is in transit or static storage — the bows and tarpaulin are removable for top loading and can be refitted once cargo is secured. The COR-TEN steel frame, corner castings, and cladding develop a stable surface oxide layer to resist corrosion in outdoor environments without ongoing maintenance. As a new unit, the floor, seals, and door mechanisms are in unmarked, full-specification condition.
