Choosing a 20ft shipping container
A 20ft container is 20ft long and 8ft wide externally. Standard height is 8ft 6in; a high cube adds a foot of headroom at 9ft 6in, which is what you want if you are racking the walls, fitting insulation and lining, or storing anything on a pallet stack. Internally a standard 20ft gives you roughly 19ft 4in of usable floor length and about 1,170 cubic feet.
One-trip, cargo-worthy or wind & watertight?
One-trip units have made a single loaded voyage from the factory. Paint is near-new, the floor is unmarked, and they carry a current CSC plate — this is the right choice if the container will be visible, painted, or converted. Cargo-worthy units are certified fit for ocean freight, so they are structurally sound with a valid CSC plate but will show trading wear. Wind and watertight units are dry, secure and lockable but are not ocean-certified; for a container that will sit on one site and never move again, this is the cheapest sensible option.
Conversions in this category
Beyond plain storage, the 20ft frame is the workhorse for modification work: full side access units where the entire 5.82m side opens, electric roller shutters, personnel doors, side sliding doors for IBC tank storage, fixed-glazing observation units, and fully fitted bar, retail and food-service builds. Conversion units are made to order, so allow for build time on top of normal delivery.
Getting one onto your site
A 20ft container arrives on a tilt-bed or flatbed truck. Plan for roughly 60ft of straight, clear approach in line with where the container will sit, firm level ground that will not rut under a loaded truck, and no overhead cables or branches. Delivery is a flat $500 per order anywhere we ship in the US, and every unit is inspected before it leaves the yard.
