Container chassis and trailers
A container chassis is a skeletal trailer with ISO twist locks at the corner positions, so a container drops straight on and locks down without strapping or a flatbed. If you move containers more than occasionally — between yards, sites or depots — owning the chassis is usually cheaper than paying for haulage each time.
Matching the chassis to the container
A 20ft chassis carries a 20ft container and is the easier of the two to manoeuvre and store. A 40ft chassis carries a 40ft or 40ft high cube, and is available in two-axle or three-axle configuration — the third axle spreads the load and is what you want if you regularly run at or near the container's rated payload. Twist lock positions are the standard ISO corner spacings, so any compliant container will seat correctly.
The mobile office on a trailer
There is also a 20ft mobile office container supplied on its own trailer, with HVAC, a retractable staircase and security bars. Because it stays on the trailer it can be repositioned around a site or moved between sites without a crane or a tilt-bed — worth considering for phased construction work, sales offices and events.
Before you tow
Registration, plating, lighting and permit requirements for hauling a container chassis vary by state and by the weight you intend to carry, so confirm what applies where you operate before your first move. Delivery of the trailer itself is the same flat $500 per order.
